Asbestos is a natural mineral that insulates against heat and electricity and was in wide use until the 1980s. Asbestos was used primarily in heating systems in public and private sector buildings and schools, and to insulate against fire and sound.
There are many materials that may contain asbestos, including Stuccos, cement mortar plasters, tiles, and insulators on mechanical pipes. The best way to avoid exposure is to avoid moving or demolishing any materials that might contain the mineral. Asbestos testing is required before any demolition or renovation work can be done on a commercial property.
Types of asbestos testing
There are two types of commercial testing for Asbestos:
Bulk tests, which measures and detects asbestos in samples of materials suspected of containing the mineral
Air tests, which are needed on a daily basis while demolition or renovation work is being done, to ensure levels of asbestos fiber in the ambient are within regulated limits required on high-risk work

Commercial Asbestos Testing in 3 Steps
ORTAM conducts commercial asbestos testing using strict quality assurance and quality control procedures, and methodologies based upon recommendations given by the Canadian Standard Association
1 - Site Visit & Planning
Our qualified personnel visit the site and map out the locations for material testing.
2 - Collection of Samples
For “Vrac” tests, collected samples are stored securely and fitted for transportation to accredited laboratories for analysis. For “Air” tests, the ambient air is measured for particulates on site.
3 - Analysis & Report
Based on the samples gathered, we will provide a fully analyzed Vrac report within 7-10 business days of the visit. Air tests will be provided within 24 hours.
