Phase II or Phase III Environmental Study
The purpose of a Phase II environmental site assessment is to determine if potential contaminants of concerns identified in the Phase I study are present in amounts or concentrations exceeding the limits established by the MLECC. The objective of Phase III is to determine the extent of contamination identified in Phase 2.
The investigation is intrusive and typically involves excavation, and drilling, and in most cases requires the use of an excavator or drill rig.
How A Phase II or III Environmental Site Assessment Works
A Phase II or Phase III Assessment includes:
A thorough review of past studies and documentation provided by the client, and interviews with resource personnel
Planning and execution of a sampling campaign
Collection of soil, vapour, sediment, groundwater, or surface water samples for analysis to identify the specific contaminants of interest.
Execution of fieldwork, including underground infrastructure locates

ORTAM conducts Phase II or III assessments using strict quality assurance and quality control procedures, and methodologies based upon recommendations given by the MLECC.
1 - Review & Planning
Our team reviews previous studies and all relevant historical data on the site, and plans a comprehensive sampling campaign to collect the requisite materials for analysis
2 - Fieldwork & Collection
Our qualified personnel visit the site to conduct the sampling campaign, and identify any underground infrastructure on the property. The data is analyzed and interpreted by our specialists, applying parameters specific to your project.
3 - Report
Based on the information gathered, a detailed, comprehensive report is compiled. This report will include all the findings on the site, and recommendations to address any environmental impacts that have been detected.
