A comprehensive analysis of energy bills will be conducted, followed by the submission of the building’s energy consumption data to the city, in accordance with By-law 21-042. This by-law aims to monitor the usage of fossil fuels in buildings, with the objective of reducing Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
Failure to comply with this reporting obligation by the 30th of June each year will result in penalties. Any individual owning a building exceeding 2,000 m2 or comprising 25 dwelling units, who fails to submit the required data, will be deemed to have committed an offense. Such non-compliance may incur fines imposed by the city, reaching up to $4,000.00.
